Caner Ohri // Allianz Türkiye - Agile Team Member
It is very normal to think like this at first because the agile working model radically changes many things. There is no need to worry since it is so easy to adapt to this working model.
The wind of transformation brought by the agile working model envelops all teams at Allianz. This rapid transformation can naturally bring some concerns in the employees who experience the change.
With the transition to the agile working model, the first of the innovations that changed the daily working lives of the teams is “Daily.” This short meeting ritual, which changes the daily working order of an employee considerably, is an environment where all team members listen to each other, align, and can transparently express what they have done and failed to do from past to present, and talk about problematic points. So, how does this meeting make the teams feel? Let me unpack a little from my own experience.
Throughout the Daily, team members trying to answer the questions “What did I do yesterday, what difficulties did I face,” “What will I do today” and they may think of the following:
“What if my yesterday and today are the same?”
“What if what I want to do and what I do just don't match?”
“What if I am doing the same job every day?”
And then the following question appears in some: "Have I become agile yet?"
The agile working model, HEY!, is not a way of working that you transition from today to tomorrow. The tides you experience between breaking away from some old habits that are expected to change, trying to get rid of hierarchy and not being able to give up on hierarchy, as well as reaching the ability to self-organize and also trying to perform the rituals that you had difficulty in even pronouncing at the very beginning can confuse the team members. There are also a lot of prejudices. Those who follow articles will remember another article about prejudices: https://www.heyallianz.com.tr/ceviklikle-ilgili-onyargilar
As time passes, as you experience, many things start to make sense.
How fast or efficient am I at what I always do?
“Can I manage my time more effectively by planning the work that disrupts concentration and prevents focus and can I prioritize my work?”
“Am I eager to learn new work from my teammates and to practice them?”
When I asked myself many questions like this and thought about the answers, I realized that HEY! actually opened a different perspective in my working life. As I felt that I was in the center of a working style where I took more initiative, increased my empathy towards my teammates, supported me to use my time efficiently and gave importance to my personal development, the complex feelings I had at first gradually dissipated.
I know you are a little worried about getting agile, but I assured, as a team member who has just switched to the agile working model and running his 18th sprint, I believe that every day spent with agility is and will be better than the day before.
